WildPackets, Inc. Unveils New Future for EtherPeek Platform

Version 4.1 offers new features and modules to advance network management outreach

WALNUT CREEK, California - September 25, 2000

WildPackets, formerly known as the AG Group, Inc., developers of high-performance tools that deliver real-time, strategic information about an organization's network and Internet presence, today announced that it is expanding its EtherPeek platform to incorporate sophisticated web site monitoring, additional security features and more. Version 4.1 of the software, which will be previewed at the Networld + Interop event in Atlanta this week, heralds the broadening of EtherPeek as a platform with a much larger scope of network and Internet management capability.

EtherPeek has been known traditionally as an award-winning, software-based LAN analyzer with a great user interface and an affordable price. Working from this solid product base, WildPackets has created product-extensible tools called Plug-ins that allow EtherPeek to stretch beyond the boundaries of a typical packet analyzer to embrace distributed, remote packet capture, built-in IP testing tools, security features, and now web site monitoring and analysis.

The WebStats Plug-in is the first of a new breed of EtherPeek add-in tools focused on extracting key information to improve customer acquisition. The WebStats Plug-in allows users to test for or ignore a wide variety of HTTP and FTP events, and enables consumers to easily output web data, which goes beyond the core technology of EtherPeek, by displaying web information in HTML or user-defined log files.

With the WebStats Plug-in, a user can:

  • Develop an accurate picture of web-site traffic - real-time, periodic or historical.
  • Identify the hottest areas, and the hottest traffic sources.
  • Pinpoint web-site problems as they occur, sending notifications of user-specified events

WebStats captures the statistics you need to:

  • Monitor ad campaign and promotion response rates.
  • Measure search engine and affiliate placement effectiveness.
  • Load balance and troubleshoot complex implementations with ease.

Network management functions of EtherPeek will be further expanded in the future through the Plug-in SDK to allow for expert client/server and application transaction analysis, web statistics monitoring that includes the ability to instantaneously interact with accumulated data to access site usage metrics and enhanced intrusion detection.
