FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For Public Relations: ronnie@wildpackets.com For Sales: sales@wildpackets.com WildPackets to Acquire Optimized Engineering Corporation; Expands Protocol Analysis Training and ServicesWALNUT CREEK, California - January 31, 2001 WildPackets, Inc., developers of EtherPeek and a leading provider of cross-platform network and Internet management tools, today announced that they will acquire their training partner Optimized Engineering Corporation (OEC). Along with the announcement of the acquisition, WildPackets rolled out an expanded professional services program encompassing public, on-site, and remote packet and network analysis training, enhanced, multi-tiered levels of product support, and broadened network consulting options. "Last year, as part of an overall plan to expand our business through a broadening of our product line and strategic acquisitions, we purchased Net3 Group, a long-standing WildPackets' development partner. This acquisition brought us an array of complementary network management utilities and the resources and expertise to take our core packet-capture and packet-streaming technologies in new directions," says Mahboud Zabetian, WildPackets' President and CEO. "The acquisition of OEC, another long-term partner, is also a key step in WildPackets' planned growth, allowing us to increase our presence in the technical instruction, consulting, and network support services arena." Joe Bardwell, co-founder of Optimized Engineering Corporation, has been named WildPackets' Vice President of Professional Services. Mr. Bardwell has been directly involved in protocol analysis consulting and training for over twenty years. A recognized protocol analysis expert, he was selected as one of 25 key people in the computer industry in 1993 for his work in developing the Certified Network Expert (CNX) program. He has worked with numerous professional IT and engineering teams, including the National Security Agency, US Air Force, Stuart Pharmaceuticals, Ameritech, Universal Studios, and the Kennedy Space Center, to teach network and packet analysis and solve network problems. "OEC has enjoyed a mutually-rewarding relationship with WildPackets as their training partner for several years. This acquisition is a natural evolution of our partnership, and, we believe, a very fortuitous merging of two extremely well-matched organizations," states Joe Bardwell. "Our charter, going forward, will be to continue to offer the best protocol analysis training and consulting services available, and to expose as many IT professionals as possible to the excellence of the EtherPeek product through our courses and support services." Anita Lenk, OEC's other founder and a cross-platform analysis expert, has been named Director of Training.
