Company Delivers the Industry's First Comprehensive, Affordable Wireless LAN Analyzer

WALNUT CREEK, California - February 28, 2001

WildPackets, Inc., specialists in developing powerful, affordable software that delivers real-time, strategic information about an organization's network and Internet presence, today released their Windows-based wireless LAN analyzer, AiroPeek. Extending the scope of EtherPeek -- the company's award-winning Ethernet analyzer -- AiroPeek is a stand-alone, comprehensive protocol analyzer specifically designed to meet the challenges of WLAN network management. AiroPeek is based on the IEEE 802.11b protocol standard for wireless communications, and supports all standard higher level network protocols such as TCP/IP, AppleTalk, NetBEUI and IPX.

AiroPeek was created in cooperation with Cisco Systems to assist WLAN managers to intelligently design wireless LAN infrastructures, manage wireless traffic, analyze higher-level protocols and identify potential network problems and security risks. "Security is of particular concern when deploying wireless networks," states Sheri Najafi, Director of Marketing. "AiroPeek addresses these concerns head-on with features like continuous scanning for failed authentication attempts and filters that watch for encrypted traffic to or from unknown MAC addresses."

System Requirements

AiroPeek currently supports Cisco Systems' Aironet 340 series PC and PCI NICs and will add support for other wireless NIC cards, including those from Symbol Technologies and Lucent Technologies, in future product iterations. AiroPeek operates under Win95B/98/NT/2000 and ME and requires the installation of a special NDIS driver supplied with the software.
