WildPackets Academy Announces Two New 802.11 Wireless Network Analysis Courses

First Comprehensive Wireless Technical Training for IT Professionals Announced

WALNUT CREEK, California - March 26, 2001

WildPackets Inc. today announced the availability of their new WP-106 Wireless Network Analysis course, adding to the WildPackets Academy roster of effective and comprehensive network and protocol analysis training courses. This course focuses on monitoring, analyzing, and troubleshooting 802.11b wireless networks. Using AiroPeek, the industry's first affordable, full-release wireless LAN analyzer, participants will learn how to effectively analyze problems, identify security breaches, and improve the performance of their wireless LAN.

Managing and securing a wireless LAN includes understanding the technologies that help prevent unauthorized access as well as the policies and practices necessary to manage the human side of wireless networking. Course participants will learn to address wireless security issues, including some of the obvious, but often overlooked loopholes that offer exposure to many networks.

The three-day WP-106 course, entitled "802.11 Wireless LAN Analysis with AiroPeek" explains the details of the newly emerging 802.11 wireless network protocol environment. Students will have numerous hands-on opportunities to explore the operation, potential problem situations, and data transfer behaviors in 802.11 wireless networking using the AiroPeek wireless network analyzer. Advanced features in the AiroPeek analyzer will be explained and practiced with hands-on exercises that demonstrate field-proven protocol analysis methodology.

The class covers not only the details of 802.11 protocol behavior but presents solid troubleshooting methods for assuring trouble-free wireless implementation. Students will learn how to assess antenna placement and how to perform an RF site survey.

The WP-101W "Orientation To 802.11 Wireless Network Analysis with AiroPeek" two-day class is intended for AiroPeek users who are not familiar with the features and capabilities of a packet analyzer and those who want to fine-tune their analysis skills in the wireless environment. Students will be shown how to develop and apply an effective wireless network analysis methodology using AiroPeek. As field-proven analysis practices are explained, the use and application of the menus and features of AiroPeek will be presented. Hands-on exercises will provide the participants with solid practice using the core features in AiroPeek. Advanced AiroPeek features, and features that are applicable only to the wireless environment (as opposed to general use and analysis features) are presented in WP-106.
