WildPackets’ AiroPeek NX™ "Editor’s Choice" in Network Computing WLAN Analyzer Comparison

Walnut Creek, CA - May 30, 2002

WildPackets Inc., developers of award-winning network and Internet management tools, announced that AiroPeek NX™, their full-featured packet analyzer for IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, has received Network Computing’s "Editor’s Choice" designation in their May 27 review and comparison of three leading wireless LAN analyzers.

In summing up the results of extensive tests at Syracuse University Real-World Labs®, the authors gave their nod to AiroPeek NX for "its all-around ease of use and solid monitoring." They went on to state, "What distinguishes AiroPeek from its peers is the ease with which it lets you capture and view packets and set up filters. In fact, you can click on a packet in the summary while it is capturing and view the packet immediately. None of the other products we tested offer this capability. AiroPeek also lets you change the filtering in real time, and we liked its Peer Map, which lets you see IP and physical-layer conversations...."

The article also noted that AiroPeek NX ships with a Security Audit template that can be used specifically for security assessments, tracking access points using known vendor default SSIDs (service set IDs) and looking for unknown hosts trying to obtain DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) addresses.

This is the second time AiroPeek NX has been selected as the top choice among WLAN analyzers since its release in late March 2002. In April, AiroPeek NX earned eWEEK’s "Analyst’s Choice" in a comparison of the same three products.

About AiroPeek NX

AiroPeek NX is a full-featured packet analyzer for IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, used for site surveys, security audits, and WLAN network management and troubleshooting. It features a real-time expert system that provides automatic problem identification and analysis of each network device, providing descriptions of behavior indicative of network, client, server, router, or infrastructure problems. AiroPeek NX currently supports a broad range of 802.11b cards, and support for Atheros 802.11a chipset has been announced. As with all WildPackets' "Peek" products, AiroPeek NX has the ability to open multiple live capture windows, each with independent expert and Peer Map analysis.
