WildPackets Announces New EtherPeek Releases and RMONGrabber™

Adds Multiple NIC Support and Easy Remote Packet Capture

Walnut Creek, CA - November 4, 2002

WildPackets Inc., industry-leaders in packet analysis software development, training and support, announced fourth quarter releases of EtherPeek and EtherPeek NX analyzers with multiple NIC support and a new remote traffic analysis module, RMONGrabber. A public beta of all 3 products is now available from www.wildpackets.com/products/beta_download.

With the new releases of EtherPeek, protocol analysis can be performed simultaneously on multiple LAN and/or WAN segments with the same tool - a capability that has not been available in any protocol analysis tool until now.

"Our new EtherPeeks are the first analyzers to allow multiple, active, simultaneous capture sessions," states Joe Bardwell, WildPackets' VP of Professional Services. "These Q4 releases will support as many network interface adapters as can be managed by the operating system and the hardware platform. We've configured systems with eight separate adapters in our lab, with each adapter capturing different types of traffic into its own separate buffer."

The new EtherPeek releases will also include support for RMONGrabber, a remote packet analysis module and the easiest way to capture packets from an RMON probe. With RMONGrabber, you can:

  • Capture from multiple probes at the same time using multiple capture windows
  • Configure each capture window with its own set of capture and filter options
  • Collect, view, and decode packets in real-time or post-capture
  • Use multiple instances of RMONGrabber simultaneously against a single RMON Probe

Keith Axtell, Performance Analyst with Consumers Energy in Jackson, Michigan, has beta-tested RMONGrabber and EtherPeek NX v2.0 pre-release software against an existing probe population on-site. "We strive to leverage the investment we have in software and hardware for the greatest return. EtherPeek NX and RMONGrabber is another way we can achieve this by our knowledge and use of EtherPeek NX for protocol analysis, and utilizing existing RMON technology throughout our network," says Axtell.

About EtherPeek for Windows v5.0 and EtherPeek NX v2.0

EtherPeek for Windows v5.0 and EtherPeek NX v2.0 are scheduled for release on December 17, 2002. The new releases include many significant enhancements, most notably: multiple NIC capture support, multi-layer graphing options, enhanced Expert capabilities, trace file annotation, new summary decodes, VoIP Analysis Module, new monitoring function, and many UI updates. The new releases also include support for RMONGrabber™, a remote monitoring capture analysis module that can be purchased separately. WildPackets is providing a public beta of the new releases beginning November 1 from their website. EtherPeek Maintenance owners will receive the new upgrades when they are released in December.

About RMONGrabber

RMONGrabber is a remote packet analysis module that works with EtherPeek for Windows v5.0 and EtherPeek NX v2.0, both scheduled to ship on December 17th. RMON Grabber collects packets from an RMON probe directly into an EtherPeek capture window, and enables users of EtherPeek to interactively and seamlessly troubleshoot remote networks in the same way, and with the same powerful features, that are available when using EtherPeek to troubleshoot local networks. A network administrator can connect to an RMON probe in a remote office location and instantly view the packets in an EtherPeek Capture window, identifying problem situations without requiring expensive and inconvenient off-site visits. When installed with EtherPeek NX, RMONGrabber can build Peer Maps and perform Expert analysis on remote networks. The new module will debut for $999.00 USD.
