WildPackets Releases Sapphire Filter for AiroPeek and EtherPeek

Free Filter Detects Malicious Worm

Walnut Creek, CA - January 28, 2003

WildPackets Inc., innovators in affordable network and internet management tools, training and support, today released a filter to identify traffic generated by the "SQL Slammer" or "Sapphire" worm. The worm has been causing a virus-like attack that crippled global Internet activity recently. WildPackets' filter, designed to work with their AiroPeek and EtherPeek network analyzers, is free and available for downloading from their home page at www.wildpackets.com.

The Sapphire worm attacks vulnerabilities in Microsoft SQL Server 2000. More information about the worm is available from the National Infrastructure Protection Center at http://www.nipc.gov. The WildPackets' Sapphire Filter is distributed as non-supported freeware for use with AiroPeek/AiroPeek NX 1.2, EtherPeek NX 2.0, EtherPeek 5.0, and EtherPeek for Mac 4.02r2.
