WildPackets Announces RFGrabber™ Distributed WLAN Analysis Solution

New Release Marks Fundamental Change in Wireless Network Management

Walnut Creek, CA - March 10, 2003

WildPackets Inc., innovators in affordable network analysis solutions, announced the imminent release of their new remote wireless LAN solution, RFGrabber. WildPackets' RFGrabber fundamentally changes wireless network management by allowing IT Professionals to locally analyze remote WLAN traffic. RFGrabber is a combination hardware/software solution, consisting of the RFGrabber Probe, the RFGrabber Analysis Module and AiroPeek NX v2.0.

AiroPeek NX with the RFGrabber Analysis Module installed can collect data from multiple distributed RFGrabber probes simultaneously. The RFGrabber probes are connected to AiroPeek NX using standard Ethernet cable and infrastructure equipment.

"The ability to analyze traffic remotely on a wireless LAN has been a hot topic for some time," says Brant Cooper, WildPackets VP of Strategy. "With 802.11 wireless access becoming more widely deployed, the ability to monitor, manage, and troubleshoot a geographically distributed WLAN environment from a central location is becoming increasingly important."

With RFGrabber, monitoring and analyzing remote WLAN sites offers the same capabilities available with local analysis, without having to physically go to the remote site. Whether it's on another floor of the building or across the country, having a remote analysis device standing ready to capture a problem situation or to monitor statistical trends at a remote site saves time and money.

About RFGrabber

The RFGrabber Probe gathers 802.11b wireless network traffic. With the RFGrabber analysis module, AiroPeek NX receives traffic and performs Expert analysis, in real-time, on remote segments where on-site expertise may not be available or cost-effective. The probe is designed to be fully fault tolerant and failsafe. RFGrabber contains filters for management, control, and data traffic. With RFGrabber you can remotely:

  • Troubleshoot WLAN applications
  • Check signal strength
  • Scan for rogue access points
  • Verify security policy adherence
  • Monitor client connectivity
  • Gauge WLAN and AP usage

A white paper entitled "Remote Analysis of a Wireless LAN Environment" is available from http://www.wildpackets.com/ along with RFGrabber Solution details.

About AiroPeek NX v2.0

AiroPeek NX, WildPackets' enhanced 802.11 Expert WLAN Analyzer, offers both expert diagnostics and frame decoding in real-time, during capture. The Expert System provides real-time, realistic indications of network traffic conditions and problems, rendered in an intuitive display.
