WildPackets Extends WLAN Management with AiroPeek™ v2.0 and RFGrabber™

Distributed Analysis, Atheros 802.11 a/b/g, Latest Security Standards Supported in New Releases

Walnut Creek, CA - May 21, 2003

WildPackets Inc., innovators in advancing network analysis technology, announced version 2.0 releases of AiroPeek and AiroPeek NX WLAN analyzers, and the new RFGrabber™ distributed WLAN analysis solution. With these releases, IT professionals can now seamlessly manage, monitor, and troubleshoot wireless segments at the edges of their network from a central location.

"We consider the new releases of AiroPeek to be revolutionary, not just evolutionary," states Brant Cooper, VP of Corporate Strategy for WildPackets. "With multiple adapter support to capture on multiple channels, extensive NIC support, verification of wireless security schemes including LEAP/EAP, TKIP, WPA, and WEP, and dozens of wireless-specific Expert diagnoses that provide the fastest find-to-fix ratio of any network analyzer, we have the most comprehensive WLAN analysis solution available. We're also redefining wireless network management with the release of RFGrabber, providing a transparent hardware/software solution for remote WLAN analysis. And, we continue to deliver products with the lowest cost of ownership and highest rate of return."

The list of technological advances incorporated in the new AiroPeek releases includes: a new SSID Tree wireless network view with security status indicators, 17 new security Experts, bringing the total number of Experts to well over 100, an enhanced Security Audit Template, support for WPA, customizable graphs for correlating network performance metrics, and the ability to conduct simultaneous analysis of different channels with multiple adapters. Another significant addition is multi-mode a/b/g support based on Atheros Communications, Inc. technology.

"By providing a single 802.11-compliant multimode a/b/g chipset supporting all Wi-Fi standards and international radio frequencies, Atheros has greatly simplified global WLAN deployment, while ensuring backward compatibility for existing 802.11b devices," stated Dovid Coplon, WildPackets' Product Marketing Manager.

"As enterprises become more comfortable with new WLAN security measures, and look at the flexibility of multimode a/b/g, a/b, and b/g solutions that are being embedded into laptops, wireless adoption in the enterprise will explode," said Sheung Li, Product Line Manager of Atheros Communications. "By partnering with WildPackets, Atheros helps ensure that enterprises have a solution that will allow them to verify the proper configuration of their wireless networks as well as adhere to their security policies. The ease-of-use and comprehensive analysis in WildPackets WLAN products blends well with our effort to make wireless networking ubiquitous."

Four of the top five PC vendors and the top three retail vendors have all based their multimode WLAN capability on Atheros technology. With wireless embedded in more products, the need for an effective, easy-to-use troubleshooting tool also grows. AiroPeek NX is the optimal tool to manage and secure wireless network infrastructures, from initial site review through deployment and maintenance over the life of the networks.

Introductory pricing for AiroPeek + RFGrabber bundles is available through June 30, 2003. Maintenance customers also receive significant discounts on RFGrabber probe purchases made by quarter's end. Please contact sales@wildpackets.com for pricing information.
