WildPackets Ships PacketGrabber™ v2.0

Low-Cost, Distributed Packet Capture Engine Adds Multi-NIC Support, Stream to Disk

Walnut Creek, CA - July 7, 2003

Walnut Creek, California - July 7, 2003 WildPackets Inc., innovators in advancing network analysis technology, today released PacketGrabber 2.0 distributed packet capture engine. PacketGrabber extends the ability to troubleshoot enterprise networks by easily gathering trace files from workstations on remote segments. These trace files can then automatically be sent via email, ftp, or shared volume to a network administrator for expert analysis in EtherPeek NX™.

PacketGrabber's pre-configured AutoCapture templates enable distributed packet analysis with a minimum of user intervention. AutoCapture templates have the ability to employ filters, to trigger start and stop capture sessions based on time, specified filters, or number of bytes captured, and to automatically forward saved trace files to the appropriate location for analysis. PacketGrabber also intelligently detects the network adapter it should use on each remote computer.

"PacketGrabber has been widely deployed by SMB and enterprise customers as a cost-effective, distributed solution alternative," states Dovid Coplon, WildPackets' Product Marketing Manager. "The new release offers significant improvements to accommodate wider deployment from the end user's desktop to the data center." Whether used by IT Departments as a robust capture engine, or in a distributed Help Desk environment, support for simultaneous capture from multiple network adapters, stream to disk capabilities, and improved triggers greatly enhance remote segment analysis.

About PacketGrabber v2.0

A single user license of PacketGrabber is included with every EtherPeek and EtherPeek NX purchase. To deploy PacketGrabber on a widespread basis, a separate license agreement is required. The EtherPeek Distributed Capture System (DCS) combines EtherPeek NX and multi-user PacketGrabber licensing, in a cost-effective bundle. Information on multiple use or site licensing of PacketGrabber is available from http://www.wildpackets.com/products/packetgrabber/.

About EtherPeek NX

EtherPeek NX v2.0 includes multiple NIC capture support, multi-layer graphing options, enhanced Expert capabilities, trace file annotation, summary decodes, VoIP analysis, monitoring functions, and the most intuitive UI available. Multiple capture buffers can be used for a single adapter to separate different types of traffic. Maintenance owners automatically receive PacketGrabber v2.0 as part of their maintenance purchase.
