WildPackets Releases "MSBlast" Filter for AiroPeek and EtherPeek

Free Filter Detects Malicious Worm

Walnut Creek, CA - August 12, 2003

WildPackets Inc., innovators in advancing network analysis technology, today released a filter to identify traffic generated by the "MSBlast," "Lovesan" or "Blaster" worm. This malicious code began circulating on August 11th, causing significant internet-wide disruptions. WildPackets’ filter, designed to work with their AiroPeek and EtherPeek network analyzers, is free and available for downloading from their home page at www.wildpackets.com or directly here:

Although thoroughly tested, these filters are not supported by WildPackets. For more information about how to combat the worm and other attacks on your network, please visit http://www.nipc.gov

The worm attacks vulnerabilities in newer Microsoft operating systems such as Windows 2000, NT 4.0, and XP. More information about the worm is available from the National Infrastructure Protection Center at http://www.nipc.gov. Users are urged to download the Microsoft patch before this Friday from http://microsoft.com/technet. The WildPackets "MSBlast" Filter will enable network administrators to watch ongoing worm-related traffic that may occur when home laptops are attached to corporate systems. The filter is distributed as non-supported freeware for use with AiroPeek/AiroPeek NX 2.0.1, EtherPeek NX2.0, EtherPeek 5.0, and EtherPeek for Mac 4.2.

WildPackets Releases "MSBlast" Plug-In for EtherPeek

Free Plug-In Identifies Infected Workstations

In addition to the filter that WildPackets has released that can assist in the isolating of traffic caused by the MS Blaster Worm, WildPackets has also released a plug-in which reports nodes by IP Address that appear to be infected.
