WildPackets Releases the Omni Wireless Sensor

Remote Device Monitors Entire WLAN in Real Time

Walnut Creek, California, October 4, 2005 – WildPackets Inc., innovators in advanced network analysis, today announced the North American release of their Omni Wireless Sensor™, a small-footprint embedded system that monitors the health and security of 802.11 wireless traffic in real time. The Omni Wireless Sensor complements WildPackets award-winning Omni distributed network analysis platform by extending expert wireless analysis to the network edge – exactly where the wireless traffic lives.

As a self-contained hardware appliance, the Omni Wireless Sensor performs packet capture and real-time expert analysis on any combination of 802.11 (a/b/g) technologies deployed. It provides real-time monitoring of the network, ensuring compliance with established security and deployment policies, including the identification of rogue APs and potential attacks from unauthorized wireless clients. Real-time expert analysis is performed right at the source, with a full suite of alarms, filters and triggers to ensure the data is meaningful and actionable. As a component of the Omni platform, it analyzes application response times and other metrics essential for optimizing wireless services, and speeds full seven-layer packet analysis by performing it locally.

“Data for wireless network analysis must be collected at the source, the network edge, and it must be done economically,” says Dovid Coplon, Director of Product Management at WildPackets. “The Omni Wireless Sensor is designed and priced for remote deployment. With its ability to analyze all data locally, it sends only processed data back to the Omni Console, in a highly efficient manner, making the Omni Wireless Sensor a key new addition to the Omni distributed enterprise platform.”
