WildPackets Announces OmniSpectrum v3.1 Portable 802.11 Spectrum Analysis SolutionInstant Replay and Interference Severity Make It Easier than Ever to Troubleshoot RF Interference ProblemsWalnut Creek, California, March 14, 2007 – WildPackets® Inc., innovators in advanced network analysis, today announced OmniSpectrum v3.1, a mobile spectrum analysis solution that enables network engineers to troubleshoot RF interference problems with WLANs. The new release, which will be commercially available within the next two weeks, enhances ease of use with instant replay, interference severity assessments, and “friend or foe” identification of 802.11 assets. It also includes new analysis capabilities, including the identification of co-channel interference and a new signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) chart. OmniSpectrum runs on a standard Windows laptop. This release introduces support for Microsoft Vista. OmniSpectrum v3.1 enables network engineers and field service staff to even more quickly identify which channels are over-utilized and by what devices, and whether the interference sources are 802.11 or non-802.11 devices. Based on patented spectrum intelligence technology from Cognio, Inc., OmniSpectrum provides the best first line of defense in diagnosing 802.11 interference problems. RF interference, and the sources that create it, are serious concerns for enterprise WLANs. RF interference problems can lead to poor network performance and lost connectivity. Interference can be caused by other WLANs, as well as non-Wi-Fi devices such as cordless phones, microwave ovens, and security video cameras. "Farpoint Group just completed an extensive series of tests designed to show the impact of a variety of interference sources on Wi-Fi networks,” said Craig Mathias a Principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group (Ashland, MA). “We found that many interferers could dramatically degrade Wi-Fi performance, and recommend that all enterprise Wi-Fi installations possess the ability to detect and identify interference where and when it occurs. OmniSpectrum does just that." By combining OmniSpectrum with WildPackets OmniPeek network analyzer, engineers can benefit from a Total Wi-Fi Analysis™ solution that provides advanced troubleshooting capabilities for layers 1-7 of a WLAN. OmniSpectrum and OmniPeek are part of WildPackets’ OmniAnalysis Platform for network and application analysis. OmniSpectrum, which includes a Windows application and a CardBus PC card, costs $3,295.
