WildPackets’ OmniPeek Selected as Wi-Fi Alliance 802.11n Analyzer

OmniPeek to Be Deployed at All Authorized Test Labs

Walnut Creek, California, May 16, 2007 – WildPackets® Inc., innovators in advanced network analysis, today announced that the Wi-Fi Alliance has selected OmniPeek Workgroup Pro for their (802.11n) TGn certification test bed. OmniPeek Workgroup Pro with 802.11n enhancements meets the requirements for all 802.11n-specific interoperability tests in the TGn Baseline program, which follows the recently announced IEEE Draft2.0 802.11n specification. OmniPeek Workgroup Pro will be used by all Authorized Test Labs (ATLs) and any Wi-Fi Alliance member companies wishing to duplicate the test bed as part of their own development and test process.

“We congratulate WildPackets on achieving selection to the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ 802.11n draft 2.0 test bed,” said Wi-Fi Alliance managing director Frank Hanzlik. “Their participation in the development of this program has been instrumental in the achievement of an industry-wide certification for next-generation Wi-Fi products.” Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 802.11n draft 2.0 brings the next generation of Wi-Fi networking to the enterprise, without sacrificing multi-vendor interoperability, security, or compatibility.

"The pace of activity among manufacturers, as well as the clear interest being shown by consumers and enterprise IT staff, makes it clear that 802.11n is the key technology for the next big wave of wireless networking,” said Mahboud Zabetian, President and CEO of WildPackets. “We're thrilled that the Wi-Fi Alliance recognized the analysis capabilities of OmniPeek Workgroup Pro, and we look forward to working with the alliance, manufacturers, and end users as 802.11n comes to maturity in the coming year."

OmniPeek Workgroup Pro with 802.11n enhancements is capable of capturing, decoding, analyzing and displaying all 802.11n traffic. It works with many commercially available 802.11n wireless adapters to capture traffic, including management and data frames. It decodes all 11n-specific information, whether that information is in SISO beacons (beacons that any 802.11 AP or client can receive) or 11n-specific packets. OmniPeek detects and reports the presence of 802.11n APs and their capabilities, and compiles the results from all captured and decoded packets into detailed statistics and expert analyses. Displayed data follows the user-friendly and award-winning WildPackets UI elements, significantly reducing the learning curve of analyzing 802.11n traffic.

WildPackets is the first company to make an 802.11n network analysis product commercially available. OmniPeek Workgroup Pro with 802.11n enhancements is an early-access version of OmniPeek 5, the next major software release from WildPackets. This early-access version is currently limited to Wi-Fi Alliance members. Full access to 802.11n support will be available to all customers with the introduction of OmniAnalysis Platform 5 this summer.

WildPackets OmniAnalysis™ Platform

The OmniPeek network analyzer is part of WildPackets’ OmniAnalysis Platform, a distributed network analysis platform for troubleshooting, optimizing, and securing enterprise networks and applications. The OmniAnalysis Platform uses advanced analytical techniques, including application performance indexing based on the industry standard Apdex metric, to troubleshoot problems with applications and networks–even problems that occurred hours or days ago. The OmniAnalysis Platform comprises OmniPeek network analyzers and consoles, as well as distributed OmniEngines, which analyze data at remote locations on the network. With its open APIs and a growing family of plug-ins, the OmniAnalysis Platform is designed to meet the ever-changing needs of network engineers responsible for wired and wireless networks, as well as new applications such as VoIP and VoWiFi.
