WildPackets Advances the OmniPeek Product Family

Latest version offers state of the art VoIP and wireless analysis

Walnut Creek, Calif. – October 24, 2007 – WildPackets® Inc., the leader in network and application analysis solutions for today’s converging networks, today announced version 5.1 of its OmniPeek product family. The release, available in November, includes VoIP playback and 802.11 enhancements that add capture support for Atheros-based 802.11n wireless network adapters. OmniPeek 5.1 also includes integrated support for Aruba and Cisco access points allowing them to be temporarily converted to wireless packet capturing devices. The information gathered is sent to OmniPeek for network troubleshooting and optimization.

“The ability of OmniPeek to capture large amounts of critical data and provide accurate, real-time network analysis has enabled us to make informed choices regarding recent network updates,” said Dan Robinson, network manager at Illinois Central College. “Being able to analyze network data for security, application performance and expert events relating to complexity and network growth gives us the insight we need to design and implement future network upgrades quickly and easily.”

WildPackets OmniPeek™ Product Family

The OmniPeek product family offers both portable and distributed solutions for troubleshooting and optimizing enterprise networks and applications. The OmniPeek product family is comprised of OmniPeek network analyzers and consoles, as well as distributed OmniEngines, which analyze data at remote locations on the network. With its open APIs and a growing family of plug-ins, OmniPeek is uniquely designed to meet the ever-changing needs of network engineers and system administrators responsible for the convergence of data, voice and video over wired and wireless networks, as well as performance optimization of mission-critical applications such as ERP, Web, Email and virtualized environments.

Partnership with Aruba Networks

WildPackets and Aruba have developed a joint solution that integrates OmniPeek and the Aruba Mobility Controller. Through this integration, OmniPeek can perform analysis across multiple channels simultaneously, using access points from an existing Aruba wireless network.

“WildPackets' API enables Aruba to collect, aggregate, and forward packets from our access points, significantly enhancing how enterprises analyze network data,” said Peter Cellarius, head of business and channel development at Aruba Networks. “This allows our customers to use their existing Aruba WLAN for troubleshooting and traffic analyses without cumbersome overlays, offering better visibility into the network at significantly lower cost than competing solutions.”

Multi-Channel Analysis (MCA) is different from channel scanning, which only captures data from one channel at a time. With MCA, multiple access points are used as probes, each dedicated to a different channel. This is important for analyzing and troubleshooting highly mobile applications like voice and video, which roam from AP to AP and from channel to channel as users move around. Using MCA, OmniPeek can track wireless devices and measure the amount of time it takes for each to roam, as well as graph roaming averages over time. These are critical metrics for mobile deployments, which up until now have been laborious and time consuming to determine.
