Google Map Plug-in

The Google™ Map Plug-in displays a Google Map in the OmniPeek capture window showing the locations of all the public IP addresses of captured packets. This feature is a great way to monitor your Web site at a high level and see in real time where in the world those hits are coming from.

The Google Map Plug-in has been available only for a short time, and it is already a big hit with users! Our customers love the ability to map IP addresses in OmniPeek to a Google Map in real-time.

We would like to thank Google and the Google Maps™ Team for this incredible resource.* We are now able to do things in hours and days that would've taken months before. And that is not limited to the engineering team at WildPackets. Any WildPackets user can take advantage of the open APIs of WildPackets and Google and create new features and “mash-ups.” To get started, simply join the WildPackets Developer Network. Basic membership is free. If you buy any WildPackets product, such as OmniPeek Basic, you're automatically eligible for Maintenance Membership, which provides you access to source code to the Google Map Plug-in and other plug-ins, as well. Let your imagination take it from there.

Keep in mind that internal IP addresses will not resolve to a map, so if you are behind a firewall with NAT, your address will not be mapped (or not mapped accurately).
