WildPackets Announces Compass – Free Network Forensics Dashboard

New level of packet file visibility allows for fast network diagnostics

Walnut Creek, Calif. - April 21, 2011 - WildPackets, Inc., a leading provider of network and application performance analysis solutions, today announced the availability of WildPackets Compass, a free interactive network forensics utility. Compass displays network utilization over time, including top nodes and protocols, from OmniPeek network analyzer, .pkt files, as well as .pcap files created from WireShark and other packet capture software. Compass provides visualization of wired and wireless networks, with the ability to add and remove nodes and protocols and correlate these over different periods of time. With Compass, network engineers can quickly isolate time slices for deeper network analysis.

"Compass presents a new way to visualize and interact with network packet data," said Tony Barbagallo, Vice President of Marketing at WildPackets. "Users no longer have to load and examine all packets first to determine network issues, instead they can graphically see problems in the network, pinpoint time and place, and then perform deep packet analysis."

Major capabilities:

  • Interact with network statistics and select specific ranges of time
  • Switch between second and millisecond granularity
  • Generate highly visual WYSIWYG reports on the fly
  • Analyze wired and wireless network traffic
  • Support for .pkt and .pcap file formats
  • Tightly integrated version of Compass available for OmniPeek
