LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Letter From The Editor Now that Spring is almost upon us, it's time for Spring Cleaning. This means it's time to take stock of your IT infrastructure and the tools you're using to ensure that it's performing optimally.

Start by asking yourself:

  • Have baselines of what's "normal" for your environment been established? Are they current? Our informative kit debunks common myths surrounding baselining.
  • Is monitoring for your virtual devices set up correctly? This quick video walks you through the process.
  • Are uncommon or nonstandard network flows identified? Short tip of the month guides you through how to find and extract these flows for monitoring.

While you're checking to see if you've got the basics covered, be sure to sign up for next week's "WildPackets Distributed Solutions Overview" webinar on April 2, 2009 at 8:30 AM PDT (11:30 AM EDT). Jay Botelho, Director of Product Management, will demonstrate how you can confidently face the challenges of analyzing and troubleshooting today's converged networks. Attend this seminar and learn how to:

  • Use intuitive VoIP and Video Dashboards to see the voice and/or video quality for each stream being transmitted
  • View statistics such as MOS and RFactor over time for a truer representation of user experience
  • Compare real-time demand using Media Throughput vs. Network Throughput graphs
  • In cases of poor performance or system issues/outages, quickly drill down and analyze the exact cause of the issue, including unexpected interactions between voice/video and data

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
Eden Signature

PRODUCT NEWS: WildPackets Distributed Solutions - VERSION 6

Product Box Earlier this month at CeBIT, we announced WildPackets Distributed Solutions - Version 6. This release is the culmination of almost two years of development and beta testing from some of the largest companies on the planet, including RBS, SAP, Siemens, and Deutsche Telekom.

OmniPeek 6 introduces intuitive VoIP and Video Dashboards where, at a glance, network engineers can see the voice and/or video quality for each stream being transmitted, and can be notified when performance drops below a certain level. Network engineers can easily click on a specific call and get signaling information such as caller, callee, extension number, signaling protocol, codecs, etc. and drill down into the media flows view to quickly determine call quality. All the Expert diagnoses associated with the call are available in the same view providing the description, cause, and remedy of the issue.

FEATURED SOLUTION: NETWORK FORENSICS

Discovering you have a security threat is only a piece of a network forensics solution. You also need to be able to quickly sift through various data, using a variety of parameters such as source/destination IP address, source/destination port, time, date, protocol, string, and more, and perform analyses quickly. Learn more about the three basic elements of a network forensics solution -- data capture and recording; data discovery; and data analysis -- and the typical process for conducting digital investigations using the WildPackets Network Forensics Solution.
