LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

November was a busy month for WildPackets. We attended numerous shows and talked with many network engineers – at Cisco’s IP Telephony User Group (CIPTUG) in Orlando, FL, VoiceCon and Network World IT Roadmap in San Francisco, CA.

At these shows we heard a couple of themes: being asked to do more with less resources; having to prove – and show – that slowdowns aren’t due to the network; and increasingly monitoring and troubleshooting virtual devices. In this month’s newsletter we tackle the first two themes with our Network Analysis Survival Kit and Application vs. Network – The Fight is On! webinar.

  • If you’re interested in learning more about WildPackets products and how to definitely prove it’s not the network, sign up for our live webinar on December 9th from 10:00AM to 11:00AM PST (1:00PM to 2:00PM EST).
  • If you’re a current WildPackets customer and want to see how you can use WildPackets OmniPeek to definitely prove it’s not the network, sign up for our live webinar on December 10th from 10:00AM to 11:00AM PST (1:00PM to 2:00PM EST).
Do you agree/disagree with these themes? In January’s newsletter we’ll be covering the remaining theme: a Virtualization How To Kit – complete with another Problem Resolution Video from our technical experts. Tell us what’s on your mind. Have a tip or best practice for troubleshooting virtual devices? Submit your best practice or product tip and see your name in print. Also remember that you’ll be entered in our a monthly drawing for a $50 Amazon gift certificate. The more tips you enter, the better your chances.

Enjoy your holidays and see you next year!

Sincerely,

Eden Hensley
Director of Marketing Communication

Also, by measuring both network and application latency proactively, you’ll see potential issues before they become problems. With this kit, you’ll learn how to use OmniPeek to create baselines, collect data, and generate periodic benchmark reports as well as how to measure latency both passively and actively. FEATURED CUSTOMER

OmniPeek Helps CC Communications Maintain Network Stability

“The ability for us to view a network with around 5,000 computers at once was virtually impossible. We needed a tool that could serve as an extra set of eyes – OmniPeek does exactly that. Should a problem arise, OmniPeek quickly identifies where and when it is happening. By promptly fixing the issue, our service remains intact and customers are happy.”
—Gene Ponce, Network Administrator

CC Communications serves the residents and businesses of Churchill County with local and long distance telephone service, cellular and wireless services, Internet access including dial-up, and broadband high-speed and digital television. Before deploying OmniPeek, CC Communications had no direct insight into their vast network. As the company’s 12,000 customers rely on them to ensure all communications needs are met without any glitches, the company needed to be able to identify problems taking place across a broad network of users and fix issues quickly. by Chris Bloom

Expand your arsenal for measuring latency. With our new Ping Latency Analyzer extension you can measure latency actively. Now your alarms can notify you of excessive latency before applications on the network start dropping packets. Additionally you can compare and correlate multiple servers or IP addresses in one graph for faster problem resolution - at a glance you can determine if the latency is due to the network or the application. For customers with current maintenance, download today.
