LETTER FROM THE EDITORNetwork monitoring was on many people’s minds the past couple of weeks – from how the Iranian government might be eavesdropping to how to discover and recover from sophisticated Denial of Service (DoS) attacks such as those directed to various U.S. and South Korean sites. With the risk of sounding like a broken record, I’ll repeat the importance of establishing baselines for your network infrastructure and having a robust monitoring and recording solution for post-event forensics analysis. In case you haven’t yet set up your baselines, I’ve included a classic Product Tips and Tricks – Ready, Set, Baseline! that shows how within a few minutes you can set up basic measurements of crucial segments. This month’s featured solution/webcast, “Network Analysis for Successful EMR, EHR, and PACS Systems Deployment,” while focused on healthcare, offers sound advice for anyone getting ready to deploy data intensive, mission critical systems into their network. Love WildPackets and want to get involved? At a few shows recently we’ve been asked about User Groups. Interested in helping shape our User Groups and/or starting one in your region, let us know. We’d like to celebrate our 20th anniversary with a few user events and want to make sure they meet your needs. Also, we re-launched our Network Troubleshooting Forum. So… Come on in. Ask (or answer) a few questions. Collaborate with colleagues. Show off (you know you want too!). But, in all seriousness, take advantage of the vast networking experience of professionals like yourself to get the information and guidance you need. Have a great rest of the summer and we’ll see you back here in October! Sincerely, ![]() WEBCAST: NETWORK ANALYSIS FOR SUCCESSFUL EMR, EHR, AND PACS SYSTEMS DEPLOYMENTRegardless of the system you’re deploying, prior to deployment, you need to understand the impact the new system can have on your network’s performance. In this webcast, Jay Botelho walks you through how to establish a baseline (if you’re using OmniPeek Network Analyzer check out this month’s classic Product Tips and Tricks), how to assess bandwidth demands for monitoring Gigabit and 10 Gigabit networks, and how to definitely show whether an application or the network is causing poor performance. View the webcast or download the slides today. ![]() SURVEY: NETWORK TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AND ANALYSISOver the past couple of months, WildPackets conducted a network traffic management and analysis survey. Thank you to everyone who participated - over 250 people in all! Congratulations to Doug Small (June's Online Drawing) and Peter Vido (July's Cisco Live! Drawing) who won iPod Touches in our drawings. We asked the following questions:
Read more about what we found. One finding worth noting was that Cisco Live! and online respondents were more likely than Interop respondents to use network analysis software for data collection for post-capture (forensic) analysis, 27% and 26% respectively, compared to 7% of Interop respondents.
