VLAN and MPLS Monitoring

The Omnipeek Network Analyzer provides the capability to monitor both VLANs and MPLS by providing detailed statistics on the use of each, as well as the capability to graph trends and create alarms based on the unique conditions within your network.

Through already well established data segmentation techniques the use of VLANs and MPLS is becoming more prevalent as enterprises move to converged networks – 1Gig/10Gig, voice, video and wireless all coexisting.

VLAN Monitoring

OmniPeek is able to track the usage of each VLAN as well as the users on each VLAN. Graphs and alarms can be created from the VLAN Statistics.

The VLAN Statistics plug-in generates summary stats like the ones shown below:

The VLAN ID Stats group shows the number of packets for each VLAN, by name if there is one.

The VLAN User Stats is the in & out bound traffic for each user, by name if there is one.

The VLAN In & Out Bound Stats separate the in & out bound stats.

The names on the VLANs in the Summary Stats are generated by creating entries in the name table where the first number in the dotted address of an IP address entry is the VLAN ID, and the other three numbers are zeros.

MPLS Monitoring

The MPLS Statistics Plug-in monitors the usage of each MPLS Network as well as the users on each one. Graphs and alarms can be created from the MPLS Stats.

The MPLS Statistics Plug-in generates summary statistics like the ones shown below:

The MPLS Statistics group shows the total number of packets for each MPLS, by name if there is one.

Within each MPLS Group are the in & out bound traffic for each user, by name if there is one.

The names on the MPLS Groups in the Summary Statistics are generated by creating entries in the name table where the first number in the dotted address of an IP address entry is the MPLS ID, and the other three numbers are zeros. Neat trick huh!
