Geographically Distributed Networks

Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Maintaining Geographically Distributed Networks

Customer Pain Point

Geographically distributed companies can no longer deal with network issues “the old-fashioned” way – sending network engineers to physically visit a site with dedicated test hardware that generates data that can only be analyzed locally. This is too expensive, far too time consuming and functionally limits the analysis capability to a single individual.

Customer Satisfaction

  • Analysts get real-time data and analysis vs. recreating issues post-case.
  • Analysts perform troubleshooting remotely, with a software-only solution.
  • Any network engineer can access troubleshooting data, whether at headquarters, in the field or at the site exhibiting the problem.
  • Analysts can easily share data, bringing problems to resolution more quickly.

The Real World

Geographically distributed networks aren’t limited to large enterprises. Organizations of all sizes are geographically distributed today. This requires the distribution of network management and analysis capabilities to remote locations.

A logistics company with several satellite offices needed to enable the core NOC (network operations center) to view and troubleshoot remote network segments, while offering the same functionality to individuals in the field and to network engineers or employees that may be resident at the remote site. The solution was also required to provide multi-tier, multi-topology analysis to improve the resolution time for each network issue.

The Real Solution

The solution for this customer was quite straightforward. OmniPeek Enterprise supports both local and remote data capture and analysis, making it the perfect solution. OmniEngine Enterprise is strategically deployed both within the NOC and at each satellite office. Analysts at the NOC use OmniPeek Enterprise Connect on a local machine to attach to the remote OmniEngine and perform data collection and analysis. Users outside of the NOC use OmniPeek to view these same Omni DNX Engine data captures locally, and can also use OmniPeek to start local captures of their own.

The Real Benefits

  • Network analysis capabilities are distributed, eliminating the need to “distribute” network engineers every time a problem occurs at a satellite office.
  • There is no longer a need to have a network engineer on staff at each satellite office.
  • Network engineers share data and collaborate to solve problems, reducing root-cause analysis times considerably.
  • Data is collected as problems occur, where problems occur, eliminating the need to “reproduce the problem” before moving forward with the analysis.
