WildPackets has added activation to product installation. Though this minor new registration process may seem intrusive to some of our customers, the activation process will protect your software licensing rights while assisting WildPackets in its efforts to protect its intellectual property. WildPackets also has been required by its international channel partner representatives to provide a strong copy protection system, since they cannot invest in products that do not provide anti-piracy measures. In our efforts to address these realities, we believe we have implemented a user-friendly system that will prevent casual piracy and will be next to invisible to legitimate users. In its software licensing agreements, WildPackets assumes, accepts and allows for the fact that you may want a copy of the single license product installed both on your desktop and your laptop, and will also need a backup copy against system crashes, hardware upgrade eventualities, etc. With the activation process, we have built in what we believe to be a realistic number of installations, taking into consideration the copy requirements of the majority of our users as well as the spirit of our single-use software licensing agreement. The activation process is designed to be unobtrusive, with minimal customer
impact. For example, the system is activated only at the install time, and
not at every launch or at random points within the execution. How it worksWhen you install an activated WildPackets product, the installation program sends a secure encrypted message to our activation server at WildPackets, Inc. The installer sends your serial number, product information, your name and company (all of which are entered during installation), and an ID number associated with your computer. Once the server receives this information, it returns the correct key for your product and the installation continues. The information required for activation is transmitted to our server only once during installation. After the product is installed, there is no further communication with the activation server. Moreover, any information transmitted to WildPackets in order to obtain an activation key remains exclusively in our possession; it will not be shared with any third party. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, or you do not wish to automatically register the product, you can also enter the key manually. There are several alternatives for obtaining an activation key: a computer with an Internet connection and web browser can complete the request form and receive a key or you can call WildPackets Technical Support. In order to better support you in the future, your machine's CPU model, CPU Count, Physical RAM, and OS type/version/flavor will be recorded during installation. If you don’t want WildPackets to have this information, you can choose to opt out. IF YOU HAVE A SITE LICENSE FOR OUR PRODUCTS, and you are limited in any way as to the number of installations allowed, please Contact WildPackets and we will address this issue with you. Please Contact WildPackets if you have any questions or concerns. |
