Product Activation FAQs

Return to top of page What is the product activation mentioned in the installer?

When you install a Peek product the installer sends a secure message to a web server located at WildPackets. The installer sends the following information: serial number, product information, name, company name, and an ID number associated with your computer. This process will assist us in reducing software piracy, as we can insure that our software is used solely by authorized customers. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us at WildPackets Technical Support.

Return to top of page Where do I download the software to re-install my product?

Please log in to MyPeek at https://mypeek.wildpackets.com/. You can access information about your purchase and links to download your software.

Return to top of page When trying to access MyPeek I get the following error: "Our records indicate that your contracts have not yet been validated as no entry of a shipped serial number has been entered. If you believe you do have a current contract, please notify us so that we can resolve this matter." How do I solve this?

Please validate your serial number before logging into MyPeek for the first time. You will notice a link that says Validate product Serial Number. Clicking on this link will take you to the Validate Shipped Products page. Please enter your serial number and email address.

You only need to validate your serial number one time. Go back to MyPeek using your email address and login password. If you have forgotten your login password, please use the 'Forgotten Password' Option.

Return to top of page What if I do not have access to the internet, can I still activate my product?

Yes, there are two ways. 1) We can generate an activation code for you. Choose manual activation and call us with your machine ID number. 2) If you have another machine that has access to the internet go to http://reg.wildpackets.com and fill out the form, an activation code will be generated. Enter the activation code to proceed with the install.

Return to top of page I have access to the internet so why is activation still being rejected?

If you are trying to activate a current release of EtherPeek and/or AiroPeek, please be sure the Proxy Settings on your computer are properly configured. If you are still having trouble, here are two additional ways to activate your product. 1) We can generate an activation code for you. Choose manual activation and call us with your machine ID number. 2) If you have another machine that has access to the internet go to http://reg.wildpackets.com and fill out the form, an activation code will be generated. Enter the activation code to proceed with the install.

Return to top of page What is WildPackets' license policy?

We allow the installation of our products on one computer accessed by a single user, per serial number. Any installations beyond this would require the purchase of either additional licenses or a less expensive Right to Use license.

Return to top of page Can I re-install on the same machine?

Yes. As per the WildPackets software license agreement, you may install the software any number of times on one machine, with its own machine ID.

Return to top of page I need to move my product to another machine, how do I accomplish this?

If you need to install Peek on another system, we will need the Machine ID of the system that you will un-install Peek from so that we can remove this entry from our activation server.

To get the machine identifier, please follow the steps listed below.

  1. Click on Start and choose Run.
  2. Type 'cmd' and click Ok.
  3. Type 'dir'.
  4. Look for the volume serial number.

The volume serial number is the number we use for the machine identifier.

Return to top of page The product installs and activates without error, but when I attempt to launch the application, I receive an error message stating that the activation key is invalid. How do I resolve this?

This error is usually caused when the machine ID acquired during the installation process differs from that recorded by the application. We have seen this issue when the application is installed on a remote terminal services machine, and sometimes when logged onto your domain depending on your domain security settings.

To obtain the machine identifier, please follow the steps listed below.

  1. Click on Start and choose Run.
  2. Type 'cmd' and click Ok.
  3. Type 'dir'.
  4. Look for the volume serial number. The volume serial number is the number we use for the machine identifier.
  5. Reinstall the application choosing the Manual activation process and enter the machine ID returned in step 4 above.
  6. Complete the other fields on the form and submit.

The application should now launch and function normally. If you continue to encounter problems launching the application, download the CpuId.zip utility by clicking on the link below. This utility will determine what Machine ID the OS thinks it's using. Please save and unzip the file in an easily accessed directory, such as the root of your C: drive, as you will need to navigate to this directory in the command window.

ftp://ftp.wildpackets.com/pub/goodies/cpuid.zip

  • Log onto your machine, or domain, as you normally do (same as when you received the activation error).
  • Once logged in, open a command window and navigate to the location where you saved the CpuID.exe file.
  • Run the CpuID executable and note the Machine ID that it returns.
  • Compare that Machine ID with the Machine ID used to generate the previous Activation Key.
  • If they are different, go to http://reg.wildpackets.com and generate a new activation key using this new machine ID.
Return to top of page Here is a list of common activation errors.
