General FAQs

Return to top of page My card has 2 or 4 ports, why do I only see one interface?

You will only see one interface. Each channel represents one stream; each stream is then merged into one capture window. If you are trying to capture traffic from a particular channel, you will need to create an advanced software filter for each channel.

Return to top of page I inserted the OmniAdapter card into my PC but Windows is not detecting it. What could be wrong?

The card may not be properly seated in the slot. Try removing the card and re-seating it. Double-check the alignment, making sure that both ends are firmly secure in the slot. Then try rebooting.

Return to top of page Will the OmniAdapter cards pass error packets?

Yes, the OmniAdapter cards will pass error packets but please be aware that most switches do not pass error packets. The most accurate results can be found by checking your switch.

Return to top of page I installed the driver, now my PC keeps rebooting, what should I do next?

Be sure have loaded the correct driver. The drivers are on a CD that came along with your purchase. The drivers can also be found in C:\Program Files\WildPackets\Peek Application\Driver.

Return to top of page What are the differences between the WildPackets OmniAdapter and the Intel 4 Port adapter?

With the Intel MT 1000 adapter, each port on the adapter acts as a separate adapter and captures each gigabit stream separately. The OmniAdapter merges both streams of the full-duplex traffic using synchronized timestamps.

Return to top of page I have an Omnipliance and I purchased an Intel 4 port adapter, will I need to install any drivers for the Intel card?

No, you will not need to install any drivers for the Intel card. The Omnipliance will automatically recognize and install the drivers for you.

Return to top of page Why do I need to disable Hyper-Threading?

To maximize the capture performance on the OmniAdapter, we recommend that Hyper-Threading be disabled in the system BIOS configuration.
