OmniPeek Enterprise

Ethernet

OmniPeek will run with a NDIS 3 or higher compatible Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, or Gigabit promiscuous mode network adapter. Promiscuous mode is the ability to have OmniPeek take over the driver and put it into a mode that will allow it to passively capture all packets on an Ethernet wire, regardless of the address to which they are being sent/received.

For example, we are compatible with adapters from 3Com, Intel, Xircom, SMC, and many others.

Full-Duplex Gigabit

The OmniAdapter is a PCI-E card that supports up to 2 full-duplex or 4 half-duplex connections. Taking advantage of a PCI-E , the OmniAdapter provides high-performance connectivity for monitoring and troubleshooting Gigabit networks. OmniAdapter can be configured during manufacturing to support multiple configurations of SX, LX, ZX or copper (Ethernet).

OmniAdapter is available in 3 different configurations:

  • 4 ports of SFP cages
  • 4 ports of RJ45 Ethernet
  • 2 RJ45 Ethernet and 2 SFP cages

For more information about OmniAdapter, please visit the OmniAdapters Product Page.

10 Gigabit:

WildPackets’ OmniAdapter 10G is a high performance, full-duplex 10 Gigabit Network Analyzer Card with 2x10 Gbit/s optical interfaces that has been optimized for monitoring and troubleshooting traffic on 10 Gigabit Ethernet network. The two-port, OmniAdapter 10G provides hardware accelerated packet tracing and dynamically configurable filtering together with high precision timestamping. The network adapter is based on the industry standard PCI-E interface and available with 1x850nm MFF XFP or; 1x1310nm SMF XFP optical transceivers with LC connectors.

WildPackets also offers Intel Pro/10GbE adapter cards to capture 10 Gigabit traffic. The Intel Pro/10GbE cards are an excellent, cost-effective solution for those who want to connect to SPAN or mirror ports.

For more information, please visit the OmniAdapters 10G Product Page.

Wireless

For wireless packet capture, OmniPeek requires the installation of a special driver corresponding to the supported wireless network adapter. WildPackets has tested Marvell-based, Atheros-based and Intel Centrino 3945-based cards for wireless capture. Other wireless cards may work with this version to the same degree that they worked in prior versions; however, these cards are not recommended. Intra-Chassis Virtualization Capture and Analysis
In today's networks, many organizations have moved heavily towards using virtualization solutions to alleviate many headaches associated to stand-alone systems, like the overhead of management, power efficiency, physical space, and overall costs. But with that move from physical to virtual, one thing that often gets somewhat overlooked is the network traffic, especially the traffic between those machines that you just put in a virtual environment. After all, you just eliminated virtually all network latency! What is happening in there?!
