TokenPeek

Please note that TokenPeek is no longer sold.

Token Ring Interface Requirements

TokenPeek for Windows works with most NDIS3 or higher compatible interfaces that support promiscuous calls. TokenPeek uses its own software to bind to Token Ring cards and does not depend on vendor-supplied software drivers. Below are representative lists of PC Card (PCMCIA) adapters and NIC cards for desktop machines that support NDIS3 drivers and promiscuous calls.

Notes

IBM Token Ring PCI Adapter IBM PCI adapters support promiscuous mode (they do not use the "Tropic" chipset).
To get MAC frames uncheck the "copy only non-MAC frames in promiscuous mode" check box in "Advanced Properties" for the adapter in the "Network Control Panel".
Intel TokenExpress ISA/16

Madge Smart 16/4 PCI Ringnode Mk3 (51-04) For promiscuous capture, must enable "promiscuous mode support" (or "Statistics Gathering mode") in the adapter properties and reboot.
Madge Smart 100/16/4 PCI Ringnode (51-05) For promiscuous capture, must enable "promiscuous mode support" (or "Statistics Gathering mode") in the adapter properties and reboot.

Notes:

  • Token Ring cards based on the "Tropic" chip set will not support promiscuous mode. This includes the 3Com "Token-Link" series.
  • Any supported card will also report errors as TokenPeek counts errors from MAC "Report Soft Error" and "Report Active Monitor Error" frames.
  • TokenPeek for Windows is not compatible with the Novell Odinsup driver.
